Mr Slug''s Roadshow

, Start Time: 17:00, End Time: 20:00

Join Slug expert Chris du Feu (‘Mr Slug’) to discover fascinating facts about this overlooked and misunderstood group of animals...

Meet at the UHI Building (near WHFP Office) in Broadford

Mr Slug needs participants to ‘bring your own slug’ to this event: slugs can be collected and kept for a few days in advance - put them in a container eg plastic food container. No need to make any air-holes except in very small containers - slugs live their lives very slowly and will not consume all the oxygen before you open the tub again. Give the slugs something to hide in - dampen bits of papier-mâché egg boxes and a slice or two of raw potato or carrot for them to feed on. If you find a large striped one (a Tiger or Leopard slug), keep it separately and give it a mushroom to eat as it will eat smaller slugs....Make a note of where and when they are collected. Any slugs collected more than 100m apart should be kept separately for recording purposes.

A number of ‘slug refuges’ will be put out ahead of this event, so there will be a slug hunt during the evening, returning to the classroom to look at ‘finds’ through a microscope. Bring outdoor clothes and footwear, sun cream, midge repellent...

No need to book and no charge, but donations welcome for hot drinks and CAKE.
